I have been drawn to photography since I was a kid growing up in Rochester, NY (aka Kodak country). As a teen I enjoyed black & white photography and darkroom classes with my first camera, the Pentax K1000. I carried this interest into my adult years, taking various classes and experimenting with new techniques.
In 1994 I took a sabbatical from my professional career and attended the Summer Intensive program at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, in Missoula MT. This was a transformative experience that greatly honed my technical skills and challenged and expanded my artistic ones.
Because I was mid-career, I didn't feel I was in a position to make photography my full-time endeavor and retained it as an avocation. Several years later, our first child was born and the time available for "extracurricular" activities dwindled to naught.
However, out of parenthood has come a passion for photographing children and families. It started innocently enough with a set of B&W portraits for my son's first grade drama club. The experience was deeply satisfying for me. The resulting images were displayed as a set on the night of the performance and the overwhelming response convinced me that it was finally time to make something of my photography. The result is displayed in part in this web site.
If you would like to schedule a personal session for your children or family, I am generally available on weekends with a few weeks notice. Please see Pricing page for more information.
